The NBA 2K23 release date and cover athlete have yet to be revealed. However, we have a few ideas about when the game will be released and who would make the best cover athlete. Here are our predictions.

NBA 2k23

Release Date Predictions: When is NBA 2K23 Coming Out?

For the past four straight years, the NBA 2K franchise has released each installment on a Friday near the beginning of September. NBA 2K19 arrived on September 7, 2018, NBA 2K20 on September 6, 2019, NBA 2K21 on September 4, 2020, and most recently, NBA 2K22 launched on September 10, 2021.

Our best bet is based on the game’s previous release history that NBA 2K23 arrives on September 2 or September 9. It’s also possible it comes out on September 16th.

NBA 2K23 Cover Athlete Predictions

Ja Morant makes perfect sense as the NBA 2K23 cover athlete. He’s been dazzling and unique to fans with his array of moves on the court and helping to lead his team to respectability in the West with superb performances. In the current season, Ja’s averaging 26.1 points, 6.8 assists, and six rebounds per game. He’s also shooting at a rate of 49 percent, which is very impressive for a point guard. He’s become popular with many fans and is becoming a household name as one of the top stars in the league today, making him our top pick for the 2K23 cover star.

Other Potential Picks for the Game’s Cover

1. Stephen Curry

If Ja Morant isn’t on the Standard Edition cover, we think 2K may opt for the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry as the cover star. That could mean the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry gets his second cover appearance, as he previously was on the front of the game for NBA 2K16. Curry was joined by Anthony Davis and James Harden that year.

2. James Harden

James Harden seems like another potential consideration if he continues carrying the Brooklyn Nets on his back until Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving return to action.

3. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid

We’d also add Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid, as the two Eastern Conference big men continue to dominate the competition. Of those two players, the Greek Freek had the cover for NBA 2K19, while Embiid has yet to appear on the cover. Looking at NBA MVP odds, Embiid is the favorite but only slightly ahead of Giannis.

4. A’ja Wilson and Jonquel Jones

As for female options, most recent MVPs A’ja Wilson (Las Vegas Aces) and Jonquel Jones (Connecticut Sun) would be excellent choices.
